As many of you have already seen, we have decided to do some updates to
our basement entrance. The carpet in the basement entrance has served
us well but showing signs of wear and was rust stained from years of
exposure to salt. Sand and metal snow equipment that tends to be
placed here to thaw each winter. The wiring here is fed off of the
new panel via the “Entrance Lights” circuit. While we updated the
hallway wiring all the way to the inside upper hallway door, we have
not addressed this circuit beyond this point.
With the approval of the trustees, we have a few updates we intend to do
to this area this year:
1. We decided to use some of the leftover tile from our hallway project
to tile the area where snow removal equipment is stored so that cleanup
from salt, sand and water will be a little easier wet carpet will be
less likely rust the equipment. . This part has been done as seen in
the attached picture. We will add some hooks to the wall in this area
to store this equipment in a more organized manner.

2. The upper hallway door has been rubbing on the carpet/floor as it was
opened for some time. We have also adjusted the hall entrance door so it
no longer hits the floor but opens freely.
3. We would like to add a motion activated light to upstairs ramp
entrance. For those of us who stop by the church in the dark, usually
with our hands full of flowers or bulletins or mail or other items, we
think this would be quite helpful and it would possibly have an added
security and cost benefit since the light would only operated when
needed regardless of the time of night. If we like how this works, we
are open to also adding a similar light to the basement entrance. In
doing this we believe that the light would last longer if it was on a
modern three wire (grounded) circuit. All the wiring for these
circuits, and the existing switches are located in the basement entrance
area This will require updates to the existing 2 wire circuits that
these lights currently work on.
4. The paint in this area has many dings and chips over the years. We
expect there will be more once the wiring changes/updates have been made
since much of this wiring is exposed and painted.. We intend to repaint
after any wiring updates are complete.
5. We also have enough carpet left over from the hallway project to
place matching carpet in this area. The old carpet has been removed but
we don’t intend to install the new carpet until the wiring and paint
work is done.
We are also working on updates to our website. Some things we are
working on changing are:
1. We intent to improve the announcements sections for each church to
include announcements that are found in the weekly bulletin. This
should allow those who might be in hospitals or who go south for the
winter to still see weekly notices on these pages.
2. We are removing the login possibility as we have not found a secure
way to manage these pages and they just seem to attract would be
hackers. Confidential information can be shared more securely in other
ways like these emails.
3. We are testing ways to live stream our services. It looks possible,
but will take some time to work out exactly what will be the best way to
implement this to make it easy for everyone involved.
4. We intend to set up electronic giving for St Johns at some point so
have added a page for this to match St Paul’s page.
5. We will be updating history and some of the text on certain pages to
match the above changes, and bring things up to date. If anyone one has
suggestions we are happy to get your feedback!
As usual, we appreciate your patience as we work through these updates.
Thanks!
David
